Volunteering at SPA

Volunteering is a very popular activity in Australia. SPA is able to offer an opportunity for you to make a difference and benefit from your volunteer experience with us!

Working with limited resources, SPA needs the support of volunteers to ensure the strategic vision of the organisation is successfully achieved. SPA wants our partnership to be of mutual benefit – utilise your expertise, develop new skills, have different experiences, enter new professional networks and make new friends.

Volunteers will be based in the SPA Office at Leichhardt and asked to commit to at least one day per week. You will be covered by volunteer and personal accident insurance. For details of volunteer positions please email tony@suicidepreventionaust.org

You can help prevent suicide...!!!

This year alone, around 2000 Australians will take their own life. They will leave behind grieving loved ones, unanswered questions and unfounded guilt.

Suicide Prevention Australia (SPA) is committed to preventing this senseless loss of life, and you too can help to save lives by supporting our work. Our Association is the only national umbrella body active in suicide prevention throughout Australia.

There are no easy solutions to tackling suicide prevention, which is why our Association works on many levels throughout the community.

Through community awareness and advocacy …by collaborating with practitioners, researchers, community agencies and those touched by suicide…sharing and providing access to critical information…lobbying government and other agencies about improving suicide prevention strategies…and hosting local, regional and national forums, conferences and events.

Everything we do at SPA is focussed on reducing suicide, supporting those who are bereaved by suicide and improving our ability as a community to respond to those at-risk of suicide. Right now, we need your help more than ever!

Until late last year, our small staff team worked out of a rent-free office in Leichhardt. Now, the cost of renting office space at commercial rates is placing enormous pressure on our resources.

By donating what you can to this Appeal, you will help to fund services, programs and public events that could save lives…and will bring comfort to those bereaved by suicide.

Before you consider if you are in a position to make a donation, consider these facts:

  • Australia has one of the highest rates of suicide in the developed world;
  • Statistically, men are four times more like to take their own life than women;
  • Many people bereaved by the suicide of a loved one are themselves at-risk of suicidal ideation;
  • Suicide prevention strategies of the recent past prove that preventative strategies work! (The rate of youth suicide in Australia have declined in the wake of the efforts of the National Youth Suicide Strategy.)

Please, help prevent suicide and help us spread the word about suicide prevention by donating as generously as you can to this Appeal.

Your tax-deductible donation has the power to save lives!

Thank you

Dr Michael Dudley - Chairperson Suicide Prevention Australia
