Why be a member of Suicide Prevention Australia?

Suicide Prevention Australia (SPA) is a unique not-for-profit organisation. As our vision states, “we facilitate collaboration and continuing improvement in suicide prevention”. We do this impartially and strive to represent as many possible voices from the wide range of professionals and volunteers that are working across Australia to prevent suicide. This includes, but is not limited to, researchers, practitioners, policy makers, those with lived experience, service providers, government, and the community.

As an SPA member, individuals may nominate to stand for the SPA Board or as a state delegate. SPA also encourages its members to become involved with the organisation through participation in either portfolio committees or planning groups for our events.

Currently, we have an active Communications Portfolio Committee and Governance Portfolio Committee, and are soon to establish reference groups for the development of SPA’s Suicide Prevention and Capacity Building in Indigenous Communities and Men and Suicide position statements in addition to a planning group for the National Coroners’ Forum.

Whether you are an individual or an organisation, joining as a member of SPA provides plenty of opportunity to have your say in how you deem suicide prevention strategies should be implemented. Your membership also enhances SPA’s capacity to achieve its mission in Australia.
