Our Data in Practice series will take a deep dive into the New South Wales Suicide Monitoring System.  Established in late 2020, it aims to improve the quality and integration of suicide-related data across NSW.  This webinar will provide more information about the NSW Suicide Monitoring System and its role in suicide prevention in NSW. Our Data in Practice series takes a deep dive into the New South Wales Suicide Monitoring System. Established in late 2020, it aims to improve the quality and integration of suicide-related data across NSW.  This webinar will be hosted by Nancy Jong and John Uesi from InforMH, a team within the System Information and Analytics Branch of the NSW Ministry of Health. They will showcase the NSW Suicide Monitoring System and explore its role in suicide prevention in NSW.

 

About the presenters 

Nancy Jong is the manager of the Suicide Monitoring and Reporting Team within InforMH. Nancy has worked in various departments within NSW Health for the past 8 years. Prior to working in NSW Health, she worked as a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Auckland. Her interests are in using data and evidence to inform service planning and improvement, policy and government decisions. Nancy holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Pharmacology. 

 

John Uesi is a biostatistician in the Suicide Monitoring and Reporting Team within InforMH. John has experience working in several data related roles within NSW and Federal health departments over the last 8 years. He holds a Master of Applied Statistics from Macquarie University. 

 InforMH is a team within the System Information and Analytics Branch of the NSW Ministry of Health responsible for data development, collection, analysis, reporting and advice for NSW mental health and suicide prevention services.

About the Data in Practice webinar series

The Data in Practice webinar series brings together data professionals to speak about their work in suicide prevention. Previous guests have included the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare and the National Coronial Information System. The series is part of part of Suicide Prevention Australia’s efforts to inform through evidence by becoming the gateway to current knowledge on suicide prevention, synthesizing data and developing insights to inform and advice policy and decision makers, and foster research and innovation to deepen understanding and practical application.
