Meeting local needs a step in the right direction for suicide prevention

26 November 2015
SPA is encouraged by the Government’s plan to develop services which are more responsive to local needs. We are optimistic about the positive impact moves to build community capacity for care through Primary Health Networks will have on suicide prevention and acknowledge the long term commitment from the Government to rolling out this framework. We have concerns about the impact this model will have on the standard of suicide prevention programs if stringent funding principles are not put in place from the start. SPA will work with our members and the Government as part of the 5th Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Plan Expert Reference Group to address these concerns.
