Opening conversations around suicide is vital to increase awareness and help prevent suicide in our communities – but knowing exactly how to do that can be daunting. Over 10 million Australian adults are estimated to know someone who has died by suicide. One in two young people are impacted by suicide by the time they turn 25 and around 8-9 lives are lost by suicide every day.

The Prevention in Practice Summit is a new event being hosted by Everymind, in partnership with members of the Wellbeing and Prevention Coalition in Mental Health, HMRI Healthy Minds Research Program and the Manna Institute. The one-day event is focused on bridging the knowledge-to-practice gap in the prevention of mental ill-health and will bring together leaders in policy, research and practice from across Australia. Attendees will be provided with an opportunity to contribute to national priority setting and sharing of best-practice examples.

This two-hour self-care and mental wellbeing workshop will provide the skills and resources to develop an individualised self-care and mental wellbeing plan that encompasses activities to enhance physical, mental, emotional, social and spiritual health on a daily basis. Learning Outcomes On completion of this training participants will be able to: Use the language given in the National Communications Charter: Suicide Language Guide, to have safe and respectful conversations around suicide; Recognise the warning signs of suicide; Identify and develop personal self-care strategies; Promote help-seeking behaviour before a crisis occurs; Identify and promote protective factors; Identify how to support a person at risk to access appropriate services and to develop their own safety plan.
