Suicide Prevention Australia is the national peak body for the suicide prevention sector. Members are at the heart of everything we do. We collaborate with our members, organisations, governments, businesses, researchers, practitioners, and those with lived experience to reduce suicide rates in Australia. We support our members to drive collaboration, advocate for improved policies, and educate the public on suicide prevention.

The Role
We are seeking a Director of Marketing and Communications to lead our marketing and communications strategy, drive engagement, and manage our brand presence. The successful candidate will oversee a wide range of responsibilities, from strategic planning and digital channel management to event sponsorships and stakeholder communications. This role is key to promoting our mission and strengthening our impact.
Key Responsibilities:
Marketing & Communications Strategy:
Develop and execute integrated marketing and communications strategies aligned with SPA’s goals and objectives.
Oversee customer segmentation, journey mapping, and market research to enhance audience targeting and communication effectiveness.
Lead digital marketing efforts, including website optimisation, social media management, and email marketing campaigns.
Brand Management:
- Act as the custodian of SPA’s brand, ensuring consistency in messaging, tone of voice, and visual identity across all platforms.
- Regularly audit brand presence and lead rebranding initiatives as needed.
Content Strategy & Management:
- Develop and implement a content strategy that aligns with SPA’s key objectives and marketing campaigns.
- Lead content creation and distribution across multiple channels, including blogs, social media, newsletters, and press releases.
- Monitor content performance and adjust strategies based on data-driven insights.
Digital Channel Management:
- Oversee the management of all digital channels, ensuring website optimisation for user experience and SEO.
- Implement social media strategies to drive engagement, increase brand awareness, and enhance audience reach.
- Plan and execute effective email marketing campaigns to targeted audience segments.
Events & Sponsorships:
- Lead the planning and execution of SPA’s key events, including conferences and webinars, ensuring alignment with organisational goals.
- Secure and manage sponsorships for events and other initiatives, building strong relationships with sponsors.
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key external stakeholders, including members, government agencies, and sponsors.
- Collaborate with internal teams to promote key policy and advocacy messages and campaigns.
About You
You are a strategic thinker with a passion for marketing and communications, especially in mission-driven organisations. You thrive in dynamic environments and are skilled at leading teams to achieve ambitious goals. You are innovative, resilient, and able to manage multiple projects and deadlines with ease. Building relationships comes naturally to you, and you’re adept at engaging a diverse range of stakeholders—from community members to corporate sponsors.
Qualifications & Experience:
- A tertiary qualification in marketing, communications, or a related field
- Extensive experience in marketing and communications, ideally within a fast-paced, purpose-driven environment
- Strong leadership and people management skills
- A track record of developing and executing successful digital and traditional marketing strategies
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage and inspire diverse audiences
- Experience in event management, sponsorship negotiation, and partnership development
- A passion for suicide prevention and making a positive difference in the community
