Chaya has a lived experience of suicide bereavement, through the loss of her brother, followed by 3 friends/colleagues. Chaya has also been an informal carer for friends with ongoing mental illnesses and suicidal distress.Chaya became a working group member of the Launceston Suicide Prevention trial, and engaged in training through Roses in the Ocean, mental health first aid, and ASIST. She has since become a member of the StandBy Support after Suicide Lived Experience Advisory Group, and is on the Lived Experience Partnership Group with the National Suicide Prevention Office. Chaya is a single mum, a foster carer, mad about plants and works as a chef in her spare time. She’s passionate about building capacity of neurodiverse teens, through cooking. She is also passionate to see all foster and kinship carers receive mental health first aid training across the country.
