We would like to commend the NSW Government for announcing an additional $35 million to help improve access to care and support for people who are dying, their families and their carers.
Thus funding will go a long way to improving the quality of life for those with terminal illness, chronic illness and pain and elderly persons who require care.
Suicide Prevention Australia recognises that connectedness and support from friends and family is very important in circumstances of palliative care, and is critical to improving the mental health of patients.
The extra funding – to be spread over four years – will top up existing funding of $86 million provided by the NSW government annually.
