Tread Together thank you from SPA Head of Corporate and Community Relations, Jonathan Leeming

26 May 2018

A short message of thanks from the SPA team on close of 2018 Tread Together, the biggest community suicide prevention challenge this country has even seen. It's not too late to make a donation to the final tally.

Hi, my name is Jonathan and I head up Corporate and Community Relations for Suicide Prevention Australia.

Alongside many of you getting ready for Tread Together has been my life for the past couple of months and I am so overwhelmed to see it all come together this weekend.

It’s quite emotional actually. Over the past 24 hours I’ve been sent photos and videos from events all over the country. Seeing you all work together and get behind suicide prevention is an inspiration. I want to acknowledge all of you who got involved due to a personal experience of suicide.

I also want to acknowledge every single person who has been involved in building this event over the years to what is has become now, Australia’s biggest single suicide prevention event.

And most of all, I want to acknowledge and thank all of YOU who took part this year!

Thousands of Australians have taken part in hundreds of Anytime Fitness clubs in small towns and big cities across the country. Over 24 hours almost 600 treadmills have been running simultaneously, from 3pm yesterday until 3pm today.

At last count the online tally came to more than a quarter of a million dollars! And that isn’t even the final figure! Over the next couple of weeks, money raised offline will come into the SPA office and we will announce a final figure as soon as we can. As you may be aware funds from Tread Together will support the national research fund to ensure money raised by the community goes back into suicide prevention in the community.

A huge thank you again to everyone at Anytime Fitness Australia and club champions from across the nation for making Tread Together a huge success and bigger than ever this year! Most of all, thank you to every single person who took part or made a donation to Tread Together this year.

Communities coming together to support each other is at the very heart of suicide prevention. It was amazing to see and we are so grateful. Thank you! Enjoy your well earned break from the treadmill!
