Improving Support for LGBTIQ Suicidal Behaviour: Insight from Lived Experience

Virtual , Australia

Funded by the Suicide Prevention Research Fund, hear from Professor Katherine Johnson and Dr Vanessa Lee-Ah Mat discuss their study “Improving support for LGBTIQ suicidal behaviour: insight from lived experience”.   Their research included the shared experience of First Nations LGBTIQA+ people, “Queer people of colour”, and other LGBTIQA+ people, and looked at how we can improve support for people experiencing suicidal distress, especially in cases of intersectionality. This webinar will broadly overview the research itself, with a strong focus on the practical implication for service delivery and will include some resources that have been developed as a result.  The webinar has been designed to introduce the latest research in suicide prevention and help everyday practitioners think about how to apply that research in the field.  Expected Audience: people engaged with policy, frontline service delivery for LGBTIQA+ people, and especially for First Nations LGBTIQA+ people, and “Queer People of colour”  Comms might target program and service delivery to LGBTIQ, First Nations, and CALD.  Research Translation Webinars are designed to introduce the latest research in suicide prevention, and help everyday practitioners think about how to apply that research in the field.
