About Dr Nicole Hill

Session title: Improving aftercare in children and young people who present to emergency departments for deliberate self-harm and suicidal crisis.

Biography: Dr Nicole Hill is a Forrest Foundation Prospect Fellow and Research Fellow in Youth Suicide Prevention at Telethon Kids Institute, University of Western Australia. She completed her PhD in youth suicide prevention at Orygen, the University of Melbourne in 2020. Dr Hill is currently establishing a suicide prevention research stream at Telethon Kids Institute. Her program of research includes improving access to mental health and aftercare services for young people who present to emergency departments for self-harm or mental-illness, improving access to mental health and postvention for individuals bereaved by suicide and is currently leading the evaluation of a police-led rapid referral system for people bereaved by suicide in South Metropolitan Perth. Her vision is to advocate for service reform so that all individuals who are experiencing mental ill health and suicidal crisis have equal access to high-quality and non-stigmatising mental health and psychosocial support services in the community.
