Nieves commenced as CEO of Suicide Prevention Australia in 2018. With an almost 40-year career in human services, for the past 20 years Nieves has been a transformative CEO and company director. Her contributions have been recognised at a regional, national and international level. In 2013 Nieves was named one of Australia’s 100 Most Influential Women by the Australian Financial Review. 

Nieves has been at the front line of homelessness and mental health in Australia being a long-term participant in volunteer activities including for Lifeline, the CEO Sleepout and the Vinnie’s Van. She is passionate about enabling people to lead good lives and embedding lived experience in service and system design. 

Nieves currently serves as the Pro Chancellor of the University of Wollongong, where she has been part of the governing body since 2013.
