Brisbane, we’re coming together to remember loved ones lost to suicide. Date: Friday, 17th November 2023 Time: 12-1 pm (AEST) Location: Brisbane Powerhouse – Rooftop Terrace | 119 Lamington Street, New Farm The service is an opportunity for reflection with music, a message of hope, listening to a story of lived experience and laying of sunflowers. We invite you to bring a picture of your loved one lost to suicide, to add to our memorial wall. Everyone is welcome. Counsellors will also be available.

CALM and CALM Care Train the Trainer Program

Become a CALM Trainer before the end of the year! CALM is becoming the most popular Suicide Intervention Skills program in Australia, and here is why: It's a one-day program, reducing clients costs and minimising staff absence. It's Australian researched and based. It's accredited with the peak body Suicide Prevention Australia. Many participants have attended other similar programs and stated how much they love the model and how it's so easy to remember. Underpinned by Motivational Interviewing which research is now showing positive results for suicide prevention/intervention. CALM is the only intervention program in Australia that has not just an app for the safety planning, but also for the person completing an intervention. CALM Intentionally focuses on the skills of communication, rather than providing just a theory or model. CALM is the only suicide intervention program delivered either virtually or in-person.

We invite all members of the Wesley Mission Suicide Prevention Network - Coffs Coast Suicide Prevention Initiative - to attend our informal idea  workshopping gathering where we can lock in some priority actions for 2024. We have garnered a lot of feedback during the past 12+ months and we need feedback on the specific strategic directions to take next year. Just to make sure the ideas are flowing, we are hosting Mocktails for our Musings (the event is strictly alcohol-free). Looking forward to seeing as many participants as possible. Community Summer Picnic – say ‘Yello’ to the New Year

The holiday season can be a tricky time for some, especially if people are without social or family supports. So, some of us from the local Wesley Mission Suicide Prevention Network - Coffs Coast Suicide Prevention Initiative - thought it may be nice to have a social event instead of a meeting in January. Come along anytime after 11am on Tuesday 9th January 2024 for a Community Summer Picnic. Everyone is welcome, and the gathering is BYOE (bring your own everything), as we are not supplying food. We thought it would be nice to gather at the Jetty Foreshores, along Jordan Esplanade, Coffs Harbour. The theme is Yellow, so bring out your summer yellowness, your picnic rug, and look out for the yellow decorations near one of the shade shelters. This is not a supervised event so please ensure all dependents are cared for. Look forward to seeing some new faces there.

The Accidental Counsellor 4-day T4T Virtual Workshop Receptionist and front counter employees are often at the frontline and first contact with a client. If that contact presents as aggressive, angry, or upset sometimes it’s not easy to find a response to diffuse or sooth a situation. The Accidental Counsellor 1-day workshop equips staff how to handle difficult scenarios and provides a helpful, appropriate response. Participants learn how to take a calm and safe approach, while conveying empathy and encouraging cooperation. It will assist your staff to de-escalate an otherwise challenging situation or potential crisis. This workshop is ideal for counter staff, frontline workers, receptionists, telephone operators, support workers and members of the public. They will learn how to have a difficult conversation; help someone identify their strengths provide them with strategies to manage their stress and distress better; re-frame their thinking to give them a different perspective on things that previously appeared negative and unachievable. The Virtual T4T is effectively delivered over a 4-day period period.
