External Complaints Policy

Making a complaint

Suicide Prevention Australia welcomes feedback and complaints as an opportunity to improve our practices and strengthen trust in our governance and operations. Complaints may be made by Members, supporters, partners or members of the community regarding our services, activities or operations.

The full Policy, including our complaint handling principles and responsibilities, is available to download at the end of this page.

You can raise a complaint in writing, by email or verbally. You do not have to identify yourself (see below for what this means for anonymous complaints).

Contact:

Email: admin@suicidepreventionaust.org
Phone: 02 9262 1130
Mail: PO Box 219, Sydney NSW 2001

We will acknowledge your complaint within three working days where practicable, keep you informed of progress, and let you know you may be supported or represented by an advocate or support person throughout.

If your complaint relates to the CEO or the Chair of the Board, please don’t include details in your initial message. Instead, either: email admin@suicidepreventionaust.org advising only who you’d like to raise the complaint with, or write directly by post marked “Private and confidential” to the Chair of the Board for a complaint about the CEO, or the Chair of the Audit and Risk Committee if it concerns both.

Complaints handled this way may take longer to acknowledge than the three working days above, as they involve a hand-off outside our usual process.

Anonymous complaints: we will still assess your complaint as far as the information you provide allows, but we won’t be able to acknowledge receipt, ask follow-up questions, or let you know the outcome.

Suicide Prevention Australia collects the personal information you provide here to assess and respond to your complaint. See our Privacy Policy for more on how we collect, use and store your information.
This page does not cover disclosures of improper conduct, see our Whistleblower Policy for that process.
