The LiFE Awards (Living is for Everyone) are designed to acknowledge the extraordinary work being done throughout the country in suicide prevention and showcase dedication, innovation and leadership.
The LiFE Awards are designed to celebrate and amplify initiatives that are breaking new ground so that others can learn and embed best-practice suicide prevention solutions across their communities. They aim to showcase the important work being done in states and territories across Australia by individuals and organisations to prevent suicide and support those in need.
On Monday, 24 March 2025 Suicide Prevention Australia hosted the Australian Capital Territory LiFE Award in Canberra. The evening showcased the important work being done in the ACT by individuals and organisations to prevent suicide and support those in need.
The evening was led by newly appointed ACT Committee Chair, Stephanie Hodson, who alongside Suicide Prevention Australia’s Executive General Manager, Kylie Hawker, announced the following recipients:
Communities in Action Award: Bereaved by Suicide Support Group – Lifeline Canberra
The Bereaved by Suicide Support Group provides a compassionate space for those bereaved by Suicide within the past 3 years. They aim to provide a judgment free, safe zone where participants can openly share their grief, explore their emotions and find comfort in listening to others who truly understand. Many bereaved by suicide feel isolated and alone and the group can foster genuine connections as the participants navigate the complexities of their loss.
Outstanding Contribution Award: TrackSAFE
The TrackSAFE Foundation, established in 2012, is Australia’s only harm prevention charity dedicated to preventing suicides, accidents, and injuries on the rail network. TrackSAFE also aims to improve the wellbeing of rail employees. Since its inception, TrackSAFE has collaborated with organisations across the rail supply chain, government and other suicide prevention groups such as Lifeline Australia to address these community concerns and implement various initiatives aimed at preventing suicide on rail. Their on-going efforts have significantly contributed to the reduction of railway suicides in Australia.
Suicide Prevention Australia would like to thank all those who submitted a nomination for the awards. We recognise that through our collective efforts, we are stronger together in preventing suicide.
Recipients of the ACT State LiFE Award automatically progress into the running of the National LiFE Award which will be held during the National Suicide Prevention Conference in Perth on Wednesday, 21 May.
