Gather in the heart of Sydney to remember and honour the precious lives lost to suicide.   Wesley LifeForce Suicide Memorial Service Sydney Opera House - Yallamundi Rooms Friday 6 September 2024 12 – 1pm   If you’ve been impacted by the loss of a loved one to suicide, join a supportive community who share the experience of bereavement. Counsellors will be present to offer support.   Reflect over music, stories of lived experience and hope and laying of sunflowers. World Suicide Prevention Day in Brisbane’s Queen street Mall

Roses in the Ocean’s Brisbane-based team will have the pleasure of connecting with community on Tuesday 10 September for our annual #WorldSuicidePreventionDay event at Queen Street Mall, Brisbane. Under the theme of Changing the Narrative, we’re thrilled to be collaborating with several organisations who will join us to show support for local community. The day will provide an opportunity for people to share their own stories and to receive the gift of a rose as a reminder they are heard and cared for.

Mindframe briefing on ABS 2023 Causes of Death data

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) will be releasing its 2023 Causes of Death data on Thursday, 10 October 2024 at 11:30am AEDT. This data set will include annual national suicide information. Everymind will host a joint online briefing session with the ABS for media and those working in the mental health and suicide prevention sector on the statistics specifically relating to suicide deaths. The webinar will feature a number of speakers providing an overview of the data, discussion of its broader national context, and insights into the importance the real people, families and communities behind the numbers. Speakers: Dr Jaelea Skehan, Director, Everymind Dr Alex Hains, Acting Head, National Suicide Prevention Office Professor Pat Dudgeon, Director, Centre of Best Practice in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Suicide Prevention Jon Eddy, suicide prevention and lived experience advocate Dr Elizabeth Paton, Mindframe Project Lead, Everymind Presentations will be followed by a Q&A session with all speakers. ABS representatives will also be available to respond to specific questions about the data. The briefing is free to attend however registration in advance is essential. Mental Health Month Webinar: LGBTIQA+SB Advocacy and Health Resistance

Join Changing the Landscape and advocate Wil Stracke in conversation this Mental Health Month. They will discuss how we can advocate for the changes we need to see in our health and broader social systems, and what it means to build community through acts of resistance. Wil Stracke is the Assistant Secretary of the Victorian Trades Hall Council, the peak body for unions in Victoria, and a long-term campaigner for women’s and queer rights. She was the Lead Organiser in Victoria for the ASU national ‘Equal Pay’ campaign that achieved wage justice for underpaid, predominantly women workers in the community services sector, before shifting over to Trades Hall in 2013. In 2017, Wil ran the Victorian field campaign for the ‘Yes’ campaign for marriage equality. Changing the Landscape is a national campaign committed to creating a future where LGBTIQA+SB suicide prevention is a national priority. You can learn more at changingthelandscape.com.au
