PROP, or People Reaching Out to People Limited, is pleased to announce the relaunch of its webpage prop.org.au.
For those not familiar with PROP, People Reaching Out to People, started nearly five years ago with the sole purpose to act as a go between the mental health not-for-profit sector community with the larger finance and business community. While many not-for-profits need better access to funding, sometimes other goods and services can be equally directed to the not-for-profit sectors, allowing them to better engage within their own targeted community. One such example was to bring a large telecommunications company to a suicide prevention provider to upgrade their telecommunications and communication systems.
The PROP.org.au webpage relaunch will have a new translation function which utilises market supplied translation services, allowing the reader to change from the original English text to one of the ten major languages to choose from. Aside from the web text, our four tutorials and accompanying eight videos with captions will equally access such translation function allowing the user to read and absorb in their native language. While we cannot accommodate all languages, we nonetheless hope that this allows us to amplify the reach of our webpage into the broader community where English is not their native language, using education to unlearn the outdated stigmatic beliefs around mental health.
The PROP.org.au page aims to provide an updated and easy to comprehend education on suicide awareness directed at those who are NOT struggling with suicidal thoughts or ideation. The hope here is that by using up-to-date and peer-reviewed research, we can better educate others away from outdated and stigmatic beliefs around suicide and mental health within those who are NOT struggling. The more informed someone is, we feel, the better able and empowered they are to engage with those who may be struggling with suicidal thoughts and ideation. As part of this, we supply four easy to digest tutorials, complete with eight videos from those with lived experience, to better educate those wanting to engage and connect with colleagues, family, and friends challenged by suicidal thoughts and ideation. This happens already when engaging someone with physical health issues but less so for those with mental health issues.
As for what lies ahead, PROP is already in preliminary discussions with one of Sydney’s major universities regarding creating a graduate certificate course in business management specifically geared for the not-for-profit sector. Watch this space.
